Step 2: Meet the Personal Trainer

We met with our personal trainer - Cheryl - last week. This woman is going to kick our butts big time. She is a former body builder and has spent the majority of her adult life in fitness.

In our first session we outlined our goal - to be fabulously f'n fit at forty - and what that entailed. We told her about how we wanted to be fit, toned, slim, and feel comfortable walking down the beach in a bikini next year. We talked about our past injuries, allergies, our busy schedules and how we are going to fit this whole training thing in. She was very supportive as she experienced this major milestone recently herself and is balancing being a mom and an active career.

I was really encouraged by her attitude toward food. In her opinion, weight is 80% what we put in our mouths and the rest is physical activity. She seems very knowledgeable about food and food sensitivities which is important as I have a gluten intolerance. This week, she'll be designing a meal plan for us that will cut out all red meat, dairy, breads (no problem for me!) and other bad foods.

We were able to choose between a cheat meal or a cheat day. With a cheat meal you can eat whatever you want for two hours that day. The cheat day is that times 24 hrs. She warned us that the more we cheat, the longer our results will take to realize. We chose one cheat meal a week. Whether we utilize this cheat is completely up to us, but it's there if we want it.

I'm looking forward to getting started on this full life transformation and hope that I can stick with it and really make a difference in my body and how it feels. It'll be interesting to see what the meal plan entails and how I can incorporate it into my crazy schedule. Working upwards of 60 hrs a week doesn't typically lend itself to eating well. This will be a true test of my will power and how much I really want these results!

Next week, we have four training sessions over four days! Wish us luck!
